Get attention and profit more!
October 28, 2007 – 10:26 amIn the internet business where my company operates, getting an audience (the right audience) to come visit your website is always a central point. No visitors, no business - it is as simple as that. Therefore you most likely consult with an SEO expert company to have them make your website move up the search engine charts until you finally reach that golden position and become number one on Google. Reaching good positions will be a more or less extensive task, time consuming and often expensive too.
When consulting an SEO expert you’ll be told that the first thing that needs to be done, is creating content on your website. I completely agree - without content you may still be able to hit number 1, but it is soooo much harder. Create some good content, start building your linkpopularity and with time you reach your desired positions on Google (which in real life will not always be number 1).
Don’t waste the potential
Let’s assume your search engine optimization starts to work and your daily number of visitors increases steadily. If your business is like most other e-businesses you probably experinence that 1, 2 or 3 in every 100 visitors end up placing an order. 1%, 2% or 3% may be good enough for you to make a decent profit, but think of it like this: You loose close to every single visitor you had on your site and that is a big loss of potential.
No matter how you advertise (which includes SEO) you do pay some amount of money for each visitor on your website. Even if you’re a skilled SEO expert yourself and are able to do most of the SEO work yourself, you still have to spend time building up your linkpopularity, writing SEO articles etc. You spend time = you spend money.
The key - Get the visitor’s attention!
Once the visitor gets on your site, his attention must be caught right away or he’ll be gone in just a few seconds. Imagine that you could get 1%, 2% or 3% more of your visitors to place an order simply be catching their attention? And it’s free - you allready paid for the visitor to get to your website.
Below is a list of how you get your visitors attention. Please note that these points are only listed for inspirational use and may work either very well or very bad for you, depending on your type of business etc.
- Place your very best offers right on the frontpage - emphasize the good offer!
- Present feedback stories from previous happy customers!
- Use the right images on your website
- Make your content pages clear and use catchy get-to-the-point headlines
- Makeuse of quotes. It emphasizes that you’ve done your research
Obviously this is just one way of making a better use of your visitors. There are other and very important ways to increase sales simply by thinking straight, focusing on ‘minor details’ which I’ll be covering at some later time… For now I’ll leave you with this information in mind. Don’t think about what all of this means - get to your website right away, while you still have this article fresh in your memory, write notes on what you need to get done to make sure you don’t forget and solve the first issues today!
